Brocom News Network | India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several states, including Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of Northeast India, as the southwest monsoon is expected to strengthen over the coming days. Weather experts say the revival of the monsoon is likely to bring widespread rain across central and northern India by the end of July.

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging in urban areas, localized flooding, traffic disruptions, and landslides in hilly regions. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also expected in several parts of the country. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow official weather updates.

The weather department has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, especially in flood-prone and mountainous regions, and to take precautions against lightning and strong winds.

Key Highlights

  • Heavy rain alerts issued for multiple states across India.
  • Delhi, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Northeast India are likely to receive significant rainfall.
  • Risk of waterlogging, flash floods, landslides, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
  • IMD advises citizens to stay updated with official forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
