The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented extensive security and traffic management measures ahead of the Kanwar Yatra 2026, one of India’s largest annual religious pilgrimages. Millions of Kanwariyas are expected to travel through the state during the holy month of Shravan, carrying sacred Ganga water from Haridwar and other pilgrimage sites to offer at Lord Shiva temples.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure there is no compromise on security, cleanliness, traffic management, or public convenience. He has also instructed authorities to take swift action against those spreading rumours or misinformation that could disrupt the pilgrimage.
During a statewide security review, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna set a target of “Zero Incident, Zero Accident” for this year’s yatra. Police have been instructed to maintain respectful conduct with devotees while ensuring robust law and order arrangements.

Authorities have also coordinated with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply around major Shiva temples, camps, and pilgrimage routes throughout the yatra.

The Kanwar Yatra is among the world’s largest annual religious pilgrimages, attracting millions of devotees from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, and several other states. Pilgrims collect holy water from the River Ganga and travel—often barefoot—to offer it at Shiva temples during the month of Shravan.
